Nav had the original maps it came with from the factory, they were dated as the 2014 maps. I just dealt with this issue a few weeks ago. Yes I could gripe about how spoiled I got with my Garmin navigator and lifetime maps that were updated quarterly, but that wasn't what you asked. The $100 every few years is cheap compared to the cost for an unlimited data plan for me. Sure I have a smart phone and use it quite a bit, but I don't have an affordable data plan for my cell service, so I use my cell data sparingly. Especially when some of the places I lived totally rerouted some major highways - the updates were essential in those situations. I will also mention that I have moved a lot, so it takes me a while to learn a new town and the navigation really helps me drive with more confidence. I also have relatives in places without much cell service, so navigating there means a solid GPS and pre-loaded maps. Sure, if I'm traveling around a major metro area I may fire up Waze to help navigate around traffic issues but I don't do that all the time. I really enjoy the convenience of the built in NAV function and 9/10 times I find what I need and get where I'm going.
